Frequently Asked Questions

I've been busking in Kingston for the last week or so and making a pretty tidy profit. I'm not sure what it is, the pink ribbons in my pigtails or maybe just that I'm the new busker on the block, but people love to stop for a chat.

I seem to get the same few questions over and over again. What grade are you in? Where did you learn to play the trombone? And, how did you learn all those old jazz standards? I'm not exactly sure what people are expecting to hear, perhaps that I'm in 6th grade and I want to be a musician or a ballerina when I grow up. Or that my mother abandoned me on the streets of Morocco when I was 5 with nothing but a trombone and a jar of pickles. Maybe I slept in a dumpster behind a club that played Frank Sinatra songs until I'd learnt them all by heart.

Really I just finished university and my mother paid a guy to teach me how to play the trombone. Then, I bought a book of music entitled 'Old Jazz Standards for the Trombone'. But who wants to give money to someone like that?
