I’m still stuck in Rimouski Marina. I’ve been here for 8 days now working on this boat. Various things have delayed us by almost a week, but most of it comes down to Dave’s lack of organisation and momentous amounts of stuff.
Yesterday Dave took a bunch of stuff we weren’t going to need for the trip back to his house. Mike and I took the opportunity to chuck out as much of his useless stuff as possible without him noticing. Unfortunately, he’s got a ridiculously good memory for all of his things, so most of the day was spent trying to find space for it. No easy task, but by the end of the day the boat actually looked like a boat. We were thrilled.
Today, just before we were going to leave, Dave remembered a spot where he’d stored some stuff. He came down to the boat with masses of junk he’d forgotten to take away; a toilet he planned on repairing, an empty drawer, another esky, MORE empty plastic containers and that was just the beginning.
I almost convinced him to get rid of the esky. I said it wasn’t going to waste, the marina might like it. No luck. I held up the empty juice containers and gave him my best puppy dog eyes. Could we please recycle them? “ I have big plans for those” he said. I turned away so he wouldn’t see the tears welling up in my eyes. This was not a good day. At least he took us out to a Chinese restaurant. A Chinese restaurant that serves poutine. It's not enough. I WANT TO GO SAILING!!!
