Captain Dave says that personality and attitude is more important than experience on a boat. Being trapped with 3 other people in a tiny space for an extended period of time takes its toll. We have been delayed by various boat issues, so we haven't even left yet. I think we already have a problem.
Dale is, like Dave, a semi retired boat owner, which means he's also used to giving orders. Having two different captains on board means disagreements. So far, both are keeping themselves in check reasonably well, but I fear it's only a matter of time.
There's another problem between them; Dave is diabetic and watches his sodium intake, Dale being American and a little squidgy around the edges, does not.
Dave sent Dale to buy food for dinner and Dave told him "to get salad things because we didn't have one yesterday".
Dale came back with salad stuff, chocolate covered caramel biscuits and blue cheese dressing.
"I got that dressing because it's my favourite AND it was on special" said Dale proudly over dinner.
Dave looked at the bottle, unimpressed.
"hmmmmm" he mumbled picking up the bottle "8,000mg of sodium per serving".
Dale blushed. "Well, I, ummmm..."
Dave raised an eyebrow and put the bottle back on the table.
"I gauruntee this one goes the fastest" said Dale, looking for support.
I gained a sudden interest in the ceiling.
"Not on my plate it won't" Dave said, picking up the fat free raspberry vinaigrette.
The tension simmered down into a cool silence.
I was almost finished my pasta. I had planned on grabbing some salad afterwards. Oh my god. What dressing was I supposed to pick? This could be the most important decision I make on the entire trip. My place on the boat would be sealed depending on what I decided to put on my salad. I smiled to myself. I had an idea.
Mike finished before me and went for the salad. I looked on, wondering what he would decide. He reached for the vinaigrette. I knew it. He didn't strike me as a blue cheese dressing kind of guy. But wait, what was this? After pouring a little vinaigrette on half his salad, he grabbed the blue cheese. Our eyes met. We'd had the same idea. We burst out laughing as he passed both the bottles to me. You know you've found a friend when....

I never knew blue cheese salad dressing could cause so much tension and stress. It's still my favorite dressing.
